123 TELUGU.COM REVIEW BY ESKAY

123Telugu.com Rating : 3.25/5
Director : Bhaskar
Music Director : Harris Jayaraj
Producer : Naga Babu
Starring : Ram Charan Teja, Genelia Dsouza, Shazahn Padamsee, Bramanandam, Suman, Pragathy, Kishore , Brahmanandam, Ali, Ahuti Prasad and others

Love by default is a complex emotion. Ramcharan Teja, along with his director Bhaskar tries to explore this in Orange. Problem for both of them is that this one comes after the blockbuster Magadheera, and the director and the actor will have to keep up with high expectations. The audio becoming a huge hit adds more to their worries. Let’s see if Orange breaks the shackles of these expectations.

What’s it about: Ram (Ramcharan Teja) lives in Australia with his sister (Manjula) and brother in law (Sanjay Swaroop). He falls in love with Janu (Genelia), a college going girl and is trying to woo her. Problem is Ram is different. He likes sky diving, is a painter but prefers graffiti, is a photographer but likes wild life photography. Quite romantic one would think but, Ram is too straightforward for a girl’s liking. In the process of making Janu fall for him, Ram tells her that he’s had nine girl friends already. That wouldn’t be an issue too, but the problem gets worse – Ram thinks that love is good only for some period of time! Janu is in a fix - whether to accept Ram’s harsh truth about how love fades over a period of a time or to stick to her point that life-long love exists. The problem for her is that Ram is pretty convincing. Even love stories of Janu’s friends, which seemed pretty and nice in the beginning, seem to fall apart. However, Janu is one adamant girl, and Ram, inspite of his weird theories, is very intense in love. Orange tells who is right and who is wrong.

What is Good: A film like Orange, which questions the validity of love is a tough story to tell. Bhaskar should first get applause for choosing this kind of story and Ramcharan too deserves a tap on shoulder to act in this one. He is very convincing in his theory that over a period of time, love between couple evaporates into thin air, and that most couples have to resort to lies to stay in a relationship. He uses good songs, and colorful visuals to communicate his theory.

As far as actors are concerned, both Ramcharan and Genelia look million bucks. They not only compete with each other with their expressions, but also end up winning hearts. Shazahn Padamsee looks cute too, but her character isn’t too long to talk about her acting abilities. Madhurima is there in a guest role too. Gayatri Rao of Happy Days, Vennela Kishore don’t have big roles either, but they do whatever they are given with conviction!

Actors like Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Manjula, Sanjay Swaroop do their bits well, but it is Brahmanandam as Puppy, who gets more screen time than each of these actors. He evokes maximum laughs in the theaters, and it is by trying to convince him that the director tries to prove his ideology. Naga Babu has a very small role, and he shows how subtlety convinces more than loud theorizing. He is just terrific!

However, making a film such as this one is like walking on a tight rope, and Bhaskar isn’t always successful with this.

What is bad: The biggest problem in the movie is why Ram actually falls in love 10 times, when he himself says that he doesn’t believe that love doesn’t last for long! The director carefully avoids this question, and weaves a story to convince his point once, twice, again and again and again. Also the director doesn’t establish why the heroine, even though she is convinced with Ram’s theories, still wants to have a long lasting love.

Yes he questions today’s love stories but he doesn’t come up with a solution other than Stephen Covey’s famous words – “Keep Loving”! Also the problem never gets to its emotional reason, even with a hackneyed flashback. The final reason why our hero starts to accept change is far from convincing.

On the whole, even though the beginning of the second half starts off well, it becomes too long till the climax.

Technical Departments: : Cinematography by Rajasekhar is great. He uses Australia to the maximum, and creates great visuals. He excels even in few scenes that have been shot in Mumbai. Dialogues and screenplay are good, for most part of the movie. Harris Jayaraj’s songs are a hit already, and they are shot well. Re-recording adds a lot of feel to the movie. Editing by Marthand K.Venkatesh is to the point. Few of Charan’s fans might be disappointed the way his dances have been choreographed. Fight scenes were mostly unnecessary and the skydiving fight is pure indulgence.

Final Point: Love, the way it is seen these days, needs to be questioned. However, that doesn’t make any sense when such a topic is dealt with half baked theories about it, formed because of one or two emotional situations. This is Orange’s short coming, otherwise it is a good entertainer, with good comedy and is over all a positive movie. It's fate, however depends on how the so-called masses take it!

'Orange' Review: No Juice, Full Of Seeds
Film: Orange
Rating: 2/5
Cast: Ramcharan Tej, Genelia, Shahzahn Padamsee, Prakashraj, Prabhu, Brahmi, Srinivas Avasarala, Madhurima, Manjula, Sanjay, Sameer, Pavitra Lokesh, Vennela Kishore, Sanchita, Naga Babu and others
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Cinematography: Rajasekhar, Kiran
Editor: Marthand K Venkatesh
Story, screenplay, direction: Baskar
Producer: Naga Babu
Release date: 26/11/2010

Ramcharan Tej is coming back after his mega blockbuster ‘Magadheera’ and this time, he is seen in a lover boy image. And Bhaskar, after his Parugu has come up with this ‘Orange’.

Story:
Set on the backdrop of Australia, Ram (Ramcharan) is an youngster who loves graffiti but he doesn’t believe in love for lifetime. He wants to say truth all the while with respect to love life and live with open mind, open thought and open action with his partner.

This leads to a clash of ideology with Jaanu (Genelia) who studies in the same college and what starts out as a romantic tale between them both turns out to be a relationship of confusion and complications.

Ram explains this entire story as his flash back while a police cop (Prakash Raj) asks him as a part of informal interrogation (!)

Jaanu believes in everlasting love but given the thought process of Ram, will they be together? Can they really love each other? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Ramcharan did his best to fit the lover boy tag and he was neat in his dance and dialogue delivery. Two things he must avoid- a clean shave and full body shots while in a group. There was no emotional depth in his character so his body language was average.

Genelia was depressing and disappointing. Her costumes were bizarre, the make up was patchy and her face looked blotted. She has lost the innocence and charm. Perhaps it is age but the blame also goes to the styling and her image etching. Performance wise, she was regular and didn’t have any special acts.

Shahzahn comes like a breath of fresh air and though she was brief, she looks cute and attractive. She has the potential to take lead roles.

Prakashraj was regular, Brahmi’s comedy was not upto the mark, Prabhu and Pavitra Lokesh were alright, Vennela Kishore was wasted, Madhurima was quick but sweet, Naga Babu made his presence felt. The others didn’t have much to offer except filling the screens and rolling out few lines.

Highlights:
Songs (although no much variety among each other)
Dances by Ram Charan
Production Values

Disappointments:
Theme
Dialogue
Lack of comedy
Lack of emotion quotient
Characterizations

Analysis:
The fundamental blunder in the film is that when speaking about love it should be run on emotions and feeling but not on calculation. To make things worse, Baskar tries to explain the calculation with his own narrative style which was rather confusing. He had something noble and different in mind but he could not conceive it in the right manner on the screen. There is no emotion, no romance, no chemistry between the lead pair, no sentiment and above all, no comedy. At one stage, it becomes like a boring mathematics class where the audience have become students and are trying to understand what Professor Bhaskar is trying to explain on the love algorithm.

The other disappointment is the philosophy on love. While it is nice to have an ocean full of love, it is common sense that love alone is not life. They are two different entities and the essence of life is in striking a balance between both. Fortunately, what Baskar was trying to say ended up confusing many in the theatre but to those who may have understood a fraction of it, this is truly dangerous. On the other hand, there are quite a number of instances where Bhaskar tried to take the route of Gautam Menon but the difference is chalk and cheese.

The good side of the film is the songs and their picturization which was really impressive and visually appealing. Charan’s efforts in songs were commendable. The fight sequence which involves the spray cans was also creative and colorful. As for his much hyped sky diving stunt, that is not so appealing as expected.

Overall, the film is good on presentation but very poor in content and completely blotched on narration and concept. While the masses have nothing in it, the class audience will feel like they are in a classroom. And regarding the mega fans…well, it looks like 2010 is just not their year as their favorite heroes seem to be dealing with unconventional characters.

Bottomline: Sour fruit with seeds of confusion and misdirection

CINEGOER REVIEW:

Director Bhaskar thought he could make a cerebral film with a romantic touch and give it a colour. He also was lucky enough to get a hero who gave a massive hit in the recent past and so gave him the role of a graffiti artist; instead of giving the artist some clarity about his role, he grabs the colour tin from his hand and splashes colours all over the screen, so much that you cannot distinguish orange from red and red from yellow, the end result is that audience go clueless and colour blind.

The director is clearly reeling with a Bommarillu hangover, in this movie Orange instead of a father-son conflict it is a pair of lovers thrashing out their views and ideologies on love. The point is simple, the hero considers himself the world's greatest lover, is obsessed with his likes and dislikes and keeps falling in love with many girls without promising a commitment.

If 'commitment' is the crux of the story, the director fails in eliciting any kind of expression from Ram Charan that remotely shows his beliefs and even his body language doesn't suggest that he has fallen in love even temporarily. The youth for whom the film is targeted are the first ones who fail to feel or connect with the emotion. Strange and also surprising that he is the same director who made Allu Arjun come out with intense emotions in Parugu despite a static location.

To make the character of the film realize his limitations, he wastes a single line script, converts it into a nonsensical drama compelling the audience to take multiple popcorn breaks, so much that even the comedian in the film Brahmanandam scratches his head and declares that he hates love stories. Not many people can understand beyond three colours and it's significance, how else will the vast Andhra Pradesh populace if at all they watch this film, made to understand that Orange is the first flush of love and it has some connection with the story.

Thankfully, he throws up a surprise, you do keep saying okay..there is Gayatri Rao, there is Avasarala Srinivas, there is Naga Babu, Prakash Raj, Prabhu and Manjula and her husband and a miserable marketing strategy..who serve no purpose at all. To show the predicaments, quandary of the protagonist, the filmmaker needs to engage the viewer first in the first fifteen minutes, here you have the hero yelling and the heroine screeching, yelping and the Telugu goes beyond comprehension.

Genelia does look young, but her expressions aren't, they are worn out. There is no novelty in her work, except her hair style. She plays the daughter of a couple who appear once in a while and smile on the framed pictures on the walls, the mother has no problem revealing that she isn't in love any more..but for godsake why that forlorn expression?

It is a universal truth that an ordinary couple do not on a day to day basis keep cootchie cooing and repeating I love you's on a minute to minute basis, even in the best of love marriages, romance takes a back seat once the child comes of marriageable age. The daughter takes the expression from her mother as a revelation which is indeed a serious aberration. Ram Charan looks disinterested in the role and appears to be just another artist in the drama etched out by Bommarillu Bhaskar. Rest of the characters while away their time as well as the audiences.

One number is worth listening and so is Ram Charan's dance. Dialogues are a yawn, visuals are pleasant and Sydney..must ask Bhaskar how it was, and how it looked like because he had been there twice. Had he been faithful to the original , some sort of sanity would have been achieved.[B] Finally, stay at home, and peel Nagpur Oranges for the tangy and sweet taste..say no to Oranges that have labels.

ONE MORE REVIEW,/..............123TELUGU.COM BY HEMANTH/.....

Director : Bhaskar
Music Director : Harris Jayaraj
Producer : Naga Babu
Starring : Ram Charan Teja, Genelia Dsouza, Shazahn Padamsee, Bramanandam, Suman, Pragathy, Kishore , Brahmanandam, Ali, Ahuti Prasad and others

Does love change with time? How long does love last between two individuals? Is it possible for two people to have the same amount of love all their lives? Questions like these form the base for Ram Charan’s new film Orange. It narrates the story of bloke who’s very practical and honest about his love, yet doesn’t want to be someone all his life. Directed by Bhaskar, the film also has Genelia in lead role.

Orange What’s it about: Ram Charan Tej stars as Ram, a wildlife photographer and a graffiti artist who lives in Australia. He comes across Janu (Genelia), whose effervescence and innocence bowls him over almost immediately. Janu is a happy-go-lucky girl who loves the idea of falling inlove with someone and one fine day bumps into Ram. She’s caught off-guard with his practical approach to life and love characterized by certain conditions, which eventually leaves her confused. As Ram tries to reason it out with her that his perspective aboutlove is indeed true, Janu undergoes a massive transformation from her usual self. Does she comply with Ram’s perspective about love? That forms the rest of the story in this urbane flick.

What is Good: Orange sets itself apart right from the beginning. We are introduced to Ram who doesn’t want to love the girl anymore; although he’s madly in love with her. What makes Charan’s character interesting here is how adamant he is about everything he believes in. He wouldn’t compromise on anything and always tells the truth, even if it hurts the very girl whom he’s trying to impress.Ram Charan is convincing as a man full of ideals who tries to reason it out with Genelia at every possible juncture. The beauty of the film lies in their conversations and how well Bhaskar moulds the situation to elucidate Ram Charan’s quirky characterization. Take that scene in the pub where Charan and the rest of the gang play ‘Truth or Dare’ or even the one where he drives his car in breakneck speed; they are among the best scenes in the film which define the hero’s perspective onlove . The level of confidence which the film’s protagonist, Ram exudes is noteworthy. He doesn’t coax the girl to the brink of madness but makes it a point to tell her why he’s the best possible guy she can find. On the other hand, Genelia is a revelation in the film. She starts off as a crazy girl who’s a bit too chirpy to live with and then she turns into someone who thinks on her own. The best part is, she knows what she wants by the end of the film and doesn’t want to budge in front of Ram’s sense of reasoning. Maybe it’s tough to live with that – knowing that you are in love with someone, yet won’t commit unless the other person believes in what you do.

The film is also laced with interesting subplots involving Charan’s own sister and brother-in-law, played by Manjula, Sanjay Swarup; another one about Charan’s earlierlove story with Rooba (Shazahn Padamsee) whom he follows all the way to Mumbai. Shazahn Padamsee is gorgeous; although her role is short-lived, she makes her presence felt as the girl who’s responsible for Charan’s adamant nature. Brahmanandam is hilarious as Puppy. Srinivas Avasarala, Prabhu, Vennela Kishore, Praneeth and others lend credible performances.

What is bad: Orange treads upon a dangerous line which isn’t easy to relate to. Perhaps it’s our own perspective of love and how it should be which obstructs us from empathizing with the protagonist. The characters aren’t flawed by virtue of how they deal with things especially those related to the aspect oflove. However, the conversations do get repetitive at times and the film’s conclusion is a bit hurried.

Technical Departments: Rajasekhar’s gorgeous cinematography makes sure that the film has a good visual appeal. Locales in Sydney and Melbourne add more charm to this sensiblelove story. Harris Jayaraj’s music is a huge asset to the film. In a way, romance comes alive in his tunes and the lyrics compliment the music pretty well. Since it’s a romantic film, the dance choreography is restrained to suit the theme. Marthand K Venkatesh’s editing is good. Bhaskar puts in a lot of effort in this script where the hero’s characterization is a bit difficult to empathize with in the beginning. He also take care that neither he nor the characters he creates are lost in the maze of their own characterization. No wonder, words like confuse, clarity are so often used in the film. Maybe, he was trying hard to tell us the same through his characters. A good effort, indeed!

Final Point: Love stories have been done to death on silver screen, yet Orange tries to look at love from a fresh perspective. It’s suave, crazy at times, unreasonable or even unfair at times. A point to observe is that it’s not candyflossromance which would bring a smile on your face instantly. Bhaskar succeeds in narrating his perspective and he does it with great honesty. And the protagonist always speaks the truth. But let’s face it, truth is sometimes difficult to deal with. Question is- what would you prefer? Truth or Lie? Perhaps, we might have to play ‘Truth or Dare’ to answer that question.

What's it about!
Love is forever is an absurd thought, believes Ram (Ram Charan), a graffiti artist in Sydney. So he keeps falling with girls and parts ways with them. Quite contrast to his ideology, Jaanu (Genelia) believes in the idea of love and is on the quest for 'right guy' to live for life. Ram meets Jaanu, keeps persuading her to fall in love with him. She falls for his charms but when she learns that he can't love her forever, she gets jolt. Does love fade with the time or it is eternal? They argue on this for rest of the story.

Analysis

Director Bhaskar has peculiar way of writing a film. He tends to put an argument about relationship enrichment through his films. He did beautifully in his maiden film, Bommarillu . It became repetitive in his second film, Parugu . In his third movie, Orange, it turns out to be futile exercise. Both the lead hero and lead heroine constantly argue about whether love is eternal or will it fade with the time. They never 'romance' or 'love each other' in the film instead they constantly quarrel over this silly arguments. Few minutes into the film, we get the feeling that we came to a seminar on this subject than to a theater to watch a supposedly romantic drama.

The film starts off with most idiotic scene and goes on with no aim till the interval. In the second half of the movie, one glues to the proceedings but again it gets tiresome towards climax.

Bright visuals, beautiful locations (Sydney, Mumbai and Malaysia), fantastic music by Haaris Jayaraj and Ram Charan's style are positive side of the movie. Rest of the movie gives is clichéd.

Only two segments in the film are impressive - the romance between Ram Charan and newcomer Shajan Padmsee in Mumbai. And the truth and dare sequence in the second half of the movie.

There is no chemistry between Ram Charan and Genelia, in fact there are no 'true romantic' scenes between them. Blame it on the director's hollow script.

Performances

Ram Charan looks suave with trendy costumes - a big departure from his first two movies. He has transformed into fashionable guy thanks to the costume designer Sabina Khan.

Newcomer Shajan Padmsee remains in her mind with her stunning beauty and innocent face. She also shares great chemistry with Ram Charan. She is the bright aspect about the film and will sure win more chances in Tollywood.

Genelia's histrionics have now become very irritating with her gestures like a mentally challenged girl. She also looks too old and her excessive 'make-up' and over the board performance actually makes us no connection with her character.

Madhurima, Pooja (Nenu Devudni fame) and Gayatri a ppear in cameo roles. There are host of other actors - Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Manjula, Sanjay Swaroop - but none of them have good characters to make an impression. Brahmanandam's so-called comedy is hardly evokes laughter.

The script and scenes are written by the director is so silly that all the characters in the movie behave as if they don't do anything in life but bickering constantly. Ram Charan tells his story to a police officer (Prakash Raj) in Sydney and the police officer forgets his duty and listens to this guy's love story for half day. Looks like cops in Australia don't have much work.

Cinematographers Kiran and Rajashekar have provided bright visuals. Matching locations of Malaysia with Australia are good. M usic by Haaris Jayaraj is definitely qualitative and is more impressive on hears. Ruba Ruba song is best of the lot. On screen, the songs look same as all of them are rendered through male voice and Ram Charan constantly imitates Ghajini Surya steps.

None of the dialogue is unimpressive. Editor Marthand should have downsized the length of the movie. It is clear that producer Naga Babu has thrown in lot of money to give the grandeur look but most of it is unnecessary.

In Trivikram's films, you find every character in the movie mouths 'punch' dialogues. And in Bhaskar's films, everyone speak 'jeevita satyalu'. Such things become pointless when you don’t have substance to hold them. That is where the director Bhaskar has failed in the movie.

Bottom-line

There is phrase in Hindi - dialogue baaji band karo . We tend to feel the same when we watch the movie. Orange may be the symbol of love but we hardly find any love in the movie. Less love, more arguments about it. Youth audiences may like certain scenes and music but the movie on the whole doesn't appeal. Content wise, it is big let down.

cinejosh review

Behind the Movie Orange: Ramcharan is back after the industry biggest hit ‘Magadheera,’ Director Baskar heavily burdened to build the new image for Mega Power Star, Harris Jayaraj refreshing tunes already topping the charts, Genelia trying for the first hit in 2010, producer Naga Babu spending more than the needful with entire shooting in Australia…with too many positives and too many logics, ‘Orange’ arrived today as a treat to Mega Fans. Let us se, how colorful is this ‘Color of Love’?

In the Movie Orange: Ram (Ramcharan) is a wonderful youngster residing in Sydney with sister and brother-in-law (Manjula and Sanjay Swaroop). Ram is in search for a new girl after nine successful love failures in his life. Ram believes in ideology that ‘True Love’ can never remain the same with time. Longevity and Love are inversely proportional. With passage of time, Love decreases in intensity and slowly it becomes conditional searching for ‘Reasons’ to get separated between any two lovers. So, Ram believes in the doctrine of Short Term Love.

Jaanu (Genelia) is a bubbly and cheerful college going girl who doesn’t have any idea on Love and she is fascinated to have a Boy Friend. Obviously, Ram falls in love with Jaanu at very first sight only for her innocence. Time starts and Jaanu tries to understand the Short Term Love concept of Ram. More she thinks on this new kind of Love story with her uncle Puppy (Brahmanandam), more she gets deeply attracted into love with Ram.

Here comes the lock as Jaanu demands a Love that is Life Long from Ram who is not in a position to give her a word. Why that Ram is unable to come out of his own puzzle? Here comes the flash back and Ram goes back to his college days where he fell in regular love with Ruba (Shazahn Padamsee). With time, Ram slowly looses his self identity, changes his friends, tastes and on a whole he looses his independence; all for the sake of Ruba who wants Ram to love and live alone for herself. Result is a break up. From then on Ram changes his philosophy.

How did Jaanu, her father (Prabhu), Sydney Police officer (Prakash Raj), Ram’s neighbor (Naga Babu) made our Hero understand the true meaning of Love forms the crispy climax.

Values of the Movie Orange: Story of ‘Orange’ throws a new angle on Love. Such wafer thin and refreshing story lines are tough to be presented on screen. This is more of an excellent screenplay rather than working too much on story. Baskar comes out with this wonderful subject rightly for Ramcharan but script has many loose ends which made the narration partially ineffective. Dialogues worked very well with audience. Few one liners and philosophically coated sweet tablet like dialogues were easily digested by audience. Cinematography by Rajasekhar is top notch and this can be regarded as one of the best in 2010. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh was abrupt and non conclusive in few situations, overall it could have been still better. Music by Harris Jayaraj stood best part of the movie and the background was exuberating. Production values of Naga Babu and Anjana Productions are ‘The Best.’

Performance wise, Ramcharan stole the entire show. He was at very ease shouldering the role with graceful look in trendy modern costumes. As a Lover Boy, Ramcharan scores 100% of marks. Particularly in songs, he will pinch the hearts of young babes. To speak about the body language, Ramcharan seems to have inherited that quality of Chiranjeevi to get deep into any kind of character given. After ‘Magadheera,’ this is the right choice. Genelia has continued the bubbly character of ‘Bommarillu’ in entire first half of this movie but coming to second half, she delivered a settled performance. Shazahn Padamsee has a key role in second half and she looks very beautiful. Though Naga Babu got a small role but ‘reasonably’ the best character in movie. Comedy wise Brahmanandam and Avasarala Srinivas were best mixed into the story. Remaining Prakashraj, Madhurima, Manjula, Sanjay Swaroop, Vennela Kishore, Prabhu, Sameer and others were delightful on the screen.

Out of the Movie Orange: Best Positive and Most Negative aspect of ‘Orange’ is ‘Story’ itself. Ramcharan redefines himself as ‘Great Lover’ who makes us understand that Real Love is more about offering the ‘Ocean of Love’ in the form of Drop by Drop. Real Love never demands ‘Reasons’ and should be seen from the view point of your opposite Partner. Story is very little but it speaks bundles of Philosophy.

Though movie takes off very slowly; once Gennie enters, audience get the doctrine of Ramcharan and Brahmanandam is into the story, ‘Orange’ picks up with huge laughs and good entertainment without missing the logics of actual story in first half. Second half, narration slows down but subject wise more worked out which provides every answer for the questions in first half. The way short climax is worked out in second half, director Baskar’s vision is completed with final scenes and scrolling titles.

For Mega Power Star Fans, sure that you get hooked to screen and Ramcharan has done the magic of Love. Particularly in songs like ‘Nene Nuvvantu’ and ‘Rara Rammante,’ he was amazing. This doesn’t mean that there are no drawbacks. Once we start finding the ‘Reasons’ we end up only with ‘Reasons’ but not the innovative part of ‘Orange.’ Overall, it is the Colorful show with simple and new angle in ‘Love.’

Cinejosh Verdict of the Movie Orange: Truth – Refreshing, New and Feel Good Love Story. Dare – Slow narration and BO success depends upon how B & C centre audiences digest this Ultra Modern concept and hi-fi picturization.

Review

Story

orange Ram (Ram Charan Tej) is an youngster staying in Australia. He is an honest guy who doesn’t want to complicate life by lying to others. He has clear-cut ideas about love and he thinks that the intensity of love will not remain the same as the relationship progresses. He falls in love at first sight with Jaanu (Genelia) and impresses her over a period of time. However, he clarifies that he can’t love her forever when she proposes to him. The rest of the story is about all the hurdles he comes across due to his honesty and truth-telling nature and how he overcomes them.

Artists Performance

orange Ram Charan Tej: Ram Charan Tej should be appreciated for accepting such a honest subject with a thin story line for his third movie. It shows that Charan is not trying to stick to stardom and is not willing to repeat the mistakes performed by stars. The entire films runs on his characterization. He is brilliant in the break-up scenes and I loved his don’t-give-a-damn body language. His dances are full of energy and life.

orangeOthers: Genelia’s characterization is just an extension to her Bommarillu character. However, the initial scenes involving her are not good. Hero character falls in love with heroine character in the movie because of freshness and innocence (which was there in Bommarillu character). However she didn’t carry such a freshness in this movie. Shahzahn Padamsee looks gorgeous with an endearing smile. Brahmanandam is entertaining in a full-length role of Puppy. Praneeth (Avakai Biryani fame) is very good and engaging as a friend of hero. His mixed the style of Siddharth and Sekhar Kammula in his dialogue delivery. Srinivas Avasarala (Ashta Chemma fame) is cool. Vennela Kishore doesn’t have much role to play. Prabhu is adequate in a role of negative shades. Naga Babu played a nice role and his character gives food for thought to hero. Gayatri Rao, Sanchitha Shetty and Kalpika are adequate.

Technical departments

orangeStory - screenplay - direction: Bhaskar comes up with an unique and nice story that was never dealt on Telugu screen before. The basic point of love staling out over period of a time is an universal truth. Bhaskar explained the same with the ‘black and white’ characterization of Charan. Though he couldn’t get it right with his screenplay and back/forth narration in the first half, he explained the concept of the movie really well towards the climax with a gripping flashback and climax. Bhaskar who has done a beautiful film like Bommarillu with completely positive characters has infused negative shades in the heroine’s father characters in his subsequent films like Parugu and Orange. Having Prabhu’s character as negative one spoilt the mood/texture of the movie.

orangeOther departments: Songs scored by Harris Jayaraj are peppy and energetic. Rooba Rooba song is my favorite. However the background scored for the movie didn’t help in elevating the situations. Dialogues (done by three writers) are partly okay. The philosophical dialogues explaining the concept of love are interesting in the second half. Cinematography and visuals are very good. Cinematography for the entire Mumbai episode is excellent. Marthand K Venkatesh opted for montage style editing (which is usually done for situational songs) for scenes in the first half and they appear jerky because the background score didn’t sync with the visuals. Production values by Anjana Productions are good, but the producer failed in controlling the budget as the money spent for this movie didn’t translate onto the screen (Naga Babu claimed in an interview that he spent 90% of what it cost to make Magadheera).

orangeAnalysis: This movie starts off on a dull note. But it gets interesting as Charan’s characterization is introduced. First half of the movie is inconsistent with improper pacing. However, movie gets into the groove from the flashback episode and it becomes a conversational film till climax. Bhaskar has taken a beautiful concept as the basis for story and it needs extreme dexterity to narrate such a story to common moviegoer. Bhaskar succeeded in getting it right towards the climax of the movie. But the ultra-modern orientation and conversations-based treatment might put normal movie goer off the hook. The plus points are Ram Charan Tej, Songs and basic story idea. On the flip side, freshness from heroine and a better handling of the first half would have done wonders to the movie. As for as I am is concerned I am convinced with the second half of the movie and I liked it. On a whole, Orange is an honest film with a nice story idea despite inconsistencies and a few dull moments. You may watch it!
